Timeline of the Exam


Application: early September–mid-October

Test: November 6, 2024 (this year)

Result: late November to early December


Exam pattern


It consists of two sections: thinking skills and writing tasks.


While Section 1 is an objective paper, Section 2 is a subjective paper. Section 1 is required by all the colleges; Section 2 is rather optional, depending on the requirements of the college and course. Section 1 consists of 50 multiple-choice questions that are evaluated on a scale of 0-100. In Section 2, students are required to write an essay out of four choices. The time allocated for Section 1 is 90 minutes, and the time allocated for Section 2 is 30 minutes. There is no marking system for Section 2, as it depends on the teacher who is checking. The marks for Section 2 are also not revealed. There is no negative marking in the TSA. 


Questions in Section 1 are based on numerical reasoning and critical reasoning. It includes:


Numerical Reasoning


Spatial Reasoning: Questions involving shapes, patterns, and spatial visualization.


Critical Reasoning


Reasoning Using Everyday Language: Questions that assess the ability to understand and evaluate written information and arguments presented in a general context.

Institutions that require TSA are:


  1. University of Oxford

  2. University College, London

  3. University of Cambridge

 

  1. University of Oxford


University of Oxford requires TSA for its undergraduate courses. It requires both sections for admission in philosophy, politics and economics. It requires section-1 for admission in Economics and Management, Experimental Psychology, Philosophy and Linguistics, Psychology, Human Sciences, History and Economics.


2. University College London


University College London requires TSA for European Social and Political Studies and International Social and Political Studies. University College London takes two TSA sessions, one in January and another in March, wherein students are required to register for one.


3. University of Cambridge


Some students might be under the impression that the University of Cambridge, but as per the website, does not take TSA.
